The AAJPSP Honors Michael Carvin

The African American Jazz Preservation Society of Pittsburgh will honor jazz drumming legend Michael Carvin during their Black Music Month Celebration on Saturday, June 27 at the New Hazlett Theater. Carvin, who the New York Times has described as “Jazz’s finest drummers,” has played and recorded with a virtual who’s who in jazz including Dizzy Gillespie, Dexter Gordon, Jackie McLean, Hank Jones, McCoy Tyner, Illinois Jacquet, Pharoah Sanders, Bobby Hutcherson, James Moody, Hampton Hawes, Ruth Brown, Johnny Hartman, Abbey Lincoln, Jimmy Smith, Hugh Masekela, Alice Coltrane, Cecil Taylor, Charles Brown, Terumasa Hino, Bobby Watson, Billy Bang, and many others.
